What should you put inside?

Do not show everyone’s contributions in advance.

Choose the opening date

The date gives the capsule its meaning.

Open it:

• One year from today.
• On a future birthday.
• On your wedding anniversary.
• When your child turns 18.
• After graduation.
• Five or ten years after moving abroad.

• On the date you plan to reach a major goal.

How to create a digital time capsule

1. Choose the purpose.
   Decide which person, moment, relationship, or chapter you want to preserve.

2. Write the main letter.
   Explain what life looks and feels like today.

3. Select meaningful photographs.
   Choose images that tell a story rather than simply filling space.

4. Record a video.
   Let your future self or loved ones see your face and hear your voice.

5. Add important files.
   Include documents, drawings, notes, or other pieces of the moment.

6. Invite others to contribute.
   Add messages from the people who are part of this chapter.

7. Choose the future date.
   Decide when the capsule should return.

8. Send it into the future.
   Your digital time capsule will wait until the selected day arrives.

Keep original copies of important files separately. The capsule should create a future experience, while your personal backups protect the originals.

Do not try to save everything

The purpose of a time capsule is not to preserve every photograph or message.

It is to choose.
